Sorting for longevity

Shirin Askari

Shirin Askari holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy. She joined SCARPA as Doctoral Candidate 5 (DC5) at the Chair of Waste Processing Technology and Waste Management (AVAW), Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria, where she works on “Sorting for Longevity.” Her research explores how artificial intelligence can support more efficient and automated sorting of used footwear within a circular economy. Together with partners in the network, she aims to define clear reuse criteria for footwear and test the approach on industrial sorting lines. Shirin is motivated by the potential of AI and sensor technologies to address real environmental challenges and keep products in use for longer.
