Compositional sorting of footwear

Kseniia Grai

Kseniia holds a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Saint Petersburg Mining University and a Master's degree in Advanced Mineral Resources Development from Montanuniversität Leoben, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, and Saint Petersburg Mining University. Her academic background combines chemical engineering, material processing, and sustainable resource management.
As a Doctoral Candidate in the SCARPA project, she conducts her research at Montanuniversität Leoben in collaboration with Ghent University. Her work focuses on developing automated sorting methods for used footwear using sensor-based technologies. She also investigates how different footwear materials and shredding processes affect sorting efficiency and the quality of materials recovered for recycling.
Her goal is to help develop a practical and efficient sorting system that allows valuable materials from discarded shoes to be recovered and reused. She is particularly interested in improving resource efficiency and contributing to more sustainable waste management.
