Chemical design for recycling

Fatma Laghmani

Fatma Laghmani holds an Engineering Degree in Industrial Chemistry, specializing in Materials Chemistry, from the National Institute of Applied Science and Technology (INSAT), Tunisia. She is currently pursuing her PhD at Ghent University, Belgium, as part of the SCARPA Doctoral Network.
Her research focuses on developing circular materials for footwear, with particular emphasis on the sole materials and adhesive interfaces that connect different components of a shoe. Her project explores dynamic covalent chemistry to develop reprocessable sole materials and on-demand debondable adhesive systems, with the aim of facilitating material recovery and separation at the end of a shoe’s life while maintaining the performance required during use.
