Compositional and Material Flow Analysis

Chelan West

Chelan West is based in Copenhagen, Denmark at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU) within the department of Environmental and Resource Engineering in the Waste, Climate, and Monitoring section. She is tackling the footwear waste problem through the compositional analysis of post-consumer footwear materials to provide a framework for end-of-life decisions, including material recovery and recyclability.

She holds a B.Sc. in chemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle; and a M.Sc. in textile chemistry from North Carolina State University, where her research focused on the synthesis of non-isocyanate-based polyurethane from cottonseed oil.

Inspired by her love for running and climbing, Chelan was drawn to SCARPA by the opportunity to blend her passion for outdoor sports and performance footwear with her commitment to advancing sustainability and circularity within the footwear industry.
