Product design for recycling

Callum Hargrove

Callum is a Design Engineer specialising in sustainable textiles and footwear. He holds an MEng in Design Engineering from Imperial College London, where his background spanned user-centred industrial design and garment design. His master's project, in collaboration with Dalbello, developed circular and sustainable ski-boot liners.

As part of the MSCA SCARPA Doctoral Network, he is based at the Sport Technology Lab at the University of Bologna. His PhD develops design-for-recycling guidelines for footwear, working with industry partners to define circularity principles, assess environmental impact, and prototype designs tested against material recovery and disassembly potential.

Motivated by his experience as a sponsored climber and Arctic Ski/Sail expedition leader, he is committed to designing products that last, can be repaired, and can be recycled, helping to protect the outdoor places he loves.
