Footwear waste refining by integrated dissolution and depolymerization

Bogdan Pjesivac

Bogdan Pješivac is a doctoral researcher at Ghent University within the SCARPA Doctoral Network. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Oil and Petrochemical Engineering from the University of Novi Sad and a Master's degree in Biorefinery from the University of Lille. Before his master’s studies, he worked as a Junior Process Engineer at an oil refinery, gaining experience in industrial process monitoring and optimization.

Within SCARPA, his research focuses on developing an integrated dissolution-depolymerization process to maximize the recycling of footwear waste. His work explores selective separation and recovery of different polymeric materials through solvent-based dissolution and chemical recycling approaches. The aim is to develop an efficient process that enables high material recovery while reducing the energy demand associated with footwear recycling.

He joined SCARPA to continue building his career in a field that addresses environmental challenges and supports the transition toward a circular economy.
