Sustainable and Circular Footwear Training Program

SCARPA is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network on circular footwear. Around 23.9 billion pairs of shoes were produced in 2022, the EU generates over 1 million tonnes of shoe waste every year, and less than 5% of footwear is recycled. Our 15 doctoral candidates are trained to become the next generation of experts in designing circular footwear, with expertise across the whole footwear value chain, from the role of the consumer and product design to recycling technologies and life cycle assessment.
